Paul Freston

Dr. Paul Freston is CIGI Chair in Religion and Politics in Global Context at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and professor colaborador at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil. He is Distinguished Senior Fellow and Director of the Program for Studies of Religion in Latin America at Baylor University's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR). Before joining ISR, he taught sociology at Calvin College, where he held the Byker Chair.

Born in England and educated at Cambridge University, Dr. Freston has a Master's degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Liverpool and a Master's degree in Christian Studies from Regent College in Vancouver. He earned a Doctorate in Sociology at the University of Campinas in Brazil. His publications include Evangelicals and Politics in Africa, Asia and Latin America (Cambridge, 2001), and Evangelical Christianity and Democracy in Latin America (Oxford, 2007).
