On the political map of the globe today, many borderlines have outlived their usefulness; they are part of the problem rather than the solution. Drawn generations ago in response to exigencies and interests of the times, they no longer follow the real socio-political topography of our world. Nor are they easily changed. Indeed, the conflict they create often works as a perverse preservative.
