New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof should be careful what he asks for. Last May he caused a minor dust-up on the op-ed pages by welcoming evangelical Christians as a "new constituency for foreign affairs in middle America." Kristoff normally counts himself a critic of evangelical forays into public life, but in this instance he found himself defending the "newest internationalists," who are "usually regarded by snooty, college-educated bicoastal elitists (not that any read this newspaper) as dangerous Neanderthals."
