Good News: Contemporary Christian Responses to Suffering

The news media are better at keeping us informed of the problems of global suffering than they are at telling the stories of positive responses. We hear of severe poverty and violence around the world, but too often we are left merely shaking our heads, wondering if the developed world (especially the United States, the richest country in all human history) could be doing more to address these problems. But there is also good news that we should not overlook: the Christian response to poverty in many Third World contexts is comparatively robust. And although there are shortcomings and challenges, the possibilities for magnifying the scale and effectiveness of Christian responses to suffering are many.
