Compassion with an Attitude: A Humanitarian's View of Human Suffering

In this brief overview I will provide a perspective on human suffering through the humanitarian's lens afforded by my experience working for World Vision, a large relief and development organization. Sadly, there is much suffering to survey. A comprehensive review exceeds the bounds of this essay, but here I will provide capsule updates on the status of three particularly vulnerable groups in today's world: children, refugees, and those with HIV/AIDS. There will not be very much good news; the world is not a hospitable place for so many of its citizens.
