The Golden Rule is an ethical thread running through virtually all the world's major faith traditions. In the Bible the principle originates in Leviticus 19:18, "Love your neighbor as yourself." In the Islamic tradition, the Sunnah teaches, "No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself." Notwithstanding this seeming consensus on neighborliness, however, the global neighborhood has become markedly unfriendly.
