Walter Russell Mead's recent article "God's Country?" (Foreign Affairs, September/October 2006) is very perceptive, largely accurate, and filled with an impressive level of detailed insight. Nevertheless, I want to point out a few small areas where I disagree, and then suggest that he largely overlooked what is perhaps the most important current development in evangelical political engagement—namely, the emergence of an increasingly vigorous evangelical center.
