As is often noted in the media, pro-Israel sentiments run stronger in the evangelical community than in most other religious traditions in the U.S. Indeed, the only religious group in America in which pro-Israel attitudes are more prevalent is the Jewish community. A 2004 survey conducted by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life asked respondents, "Should the U.S. support Israel over the Palestinians?" In descending order, the percentage replying "yes" in each major religious group was:

| Latino Protestants | 37% |
| Mainline Protestants | 33% |
| Non-Latino Catholics | 31% |
| Latino Catholics | 25% |
| Black Protestants | 24% |
| Other Faiths | 22% |
