Black Denominational Responses to U.S.-Middle East Policy Since 9/11

Vol. 6, No. 1 (Spring 2008)

In a mid-2007 article posted on "Black Is," Walter Fields criticizes the lack of public commentary by black denominations on current U.S. military involvements in the Middle East. Fields states: "While some individual church leaders have registered their opposition to the war, the denominations have failed to speak clearly on the moral imperative to end the war." He further notes that black churches "could have a profound impact upon the debate brewing on Capitol Hill over continued funding of the war effort and our military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan."
