Creation Care: Religion and Environmental Action

American faith communities across the political spectrum are increasingly aware of the need for greater environmental stewardship. This stewardship role, often expressed as a duty of "creation care," stems from God's directive to humanity in the Genesis narrative. Such an environmental ethic has returned to the foreground in the public discourse of many religious groups as they have become increasingly aware that unsustainable use of the environment harms not only the plant and animal life of God's good creation but also disproportionately victimizes poor and vulnerable human populations around the globe.
