A Developing Story

This fall, global development was back in the news. On September 20-22, the United Nations held a summit meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDG project aims to achieve, by 2015, ambitious improvements across eight broad categories: poverty/hunger, primary education, gender equality, child health, maternal health, HIV/AIDS, environment, and global development partnerships. The summit was an occasion to take stock of what has been achieved thus far, and how much more remains to be done (which in some areas is quite a lot) to meet the goals in only five years.
