Immigration & Security: Public Policy and Christian Ethics

When security is discussed in the context of US immigration policy, it typically refers to the surveillance of US borders and the apprehension and deportation of undocumented immigrants. However, for those whose Christian faith calls them to recognize the impact that immigration policies have on individuals and communities, "security" is not an end in and of itself, but a means to protect human dignity. Through assessing the intent, implementation, and impact of current immigration enforcement tactics, we can make recommendations concerning the proper role of both policy makers and the church in advancing more effective and humane policies.
